AHSR™ For Engineers and Trade
Escalation-level hydraulic remediation for systems where standard intervention has reached its practical limit. Assessment-led, manufacturer-safe, fully documented. Developed for unresolved circulation faults, microbore restriction, and system conditions where replacement is being considered without confirmed hydraulic justification.
What this service provides
Structured escalation for systems standard methods can no longer resolve
Assessment-led escalation
Every AHSR engagement begins with a formal on-site assessment. No remediation is agreed or commenced without it. Evidence is established before any intervention decision is made.
Evidence-led decision support
Assessment and remediation decisions are supported by recorded system observations, enabling defensible professional judgement, client confidence, manufacturer reassurance, and liability risk management.
Full professional documentation
All work is returned with a complete documentation set covering system condition, circuit findings, remediation record, and verification outcomes. Suitable for manufacturer review, warranty clarification, engineer records, and insurance reporting.
Low-flow, high-head hydraulic methodology
AHSR operates in the opposite hydraulic envelope to conventional flushing. Low-flow, high-head circulation with targeted circuit isolation allows intervention where increased pressure or aggressive chemistry would carry increased risk.
Controlled intervention, not aggressive flushing
Designed for systems where increased flow, pressure, or aggressive chemistry would carry elevated risk. Controlled hydraulic conditions maintain system stability, avoid disturbing compacted deposits, and target restriction at circuit level. This allows intervention where conventional flushing is no longer appropriate.
Microbore and restricted pipework
Microbore systems are a primary application area. The low-flow methodology is specifically designed for systems where standard flow velocity is ineffective or risks destabilising already-restricted circuits, including those with progressive internal restriction where further agitation carries increased risk of disturbance.
A systemic issue, not an installation failure
Some systems continue to fail despite correct installation and commissioning
In our experience, the majority of heating systems fitted with new boilers do not meet recognised water quality standards when tested. Many engineers inherit systems where historic preparation standards were inconsistent. Persistent circulation faults often reflect underlying system condition rather than installation quality. AHSR exists to support defensible professional judgement when routine intervention has reached its practical limit.
Recognising the escalation point
Heating System Flushing (All Methods) vs AHSR
Indicators that escalation is appropriate:
- Power flushing has been correctly applied without resolution
- Repeated component replacement has not resolved circulation issues
- Microbore or high-restriction pipework is present
- Further routine intervention risks destabilising the system
- Replacement is being advised without clear hydraulic justification
- Increased flow or aggressive chemistry would carry increased risk
AHSR provides a structured escalation pathway:
- Low-flow, high-head hydraulic remediation
- Evidence-led decision support before any intervention
- Clear determination of recoverability prior to any remediation cost
- Controlled intervention where assessment confirms viability
- Full professional documentation at every stage
- Manufacturer-safe. Limited strictly to the sealed water circuit.
When to escalate
Consider escalation where circulation faults persist after a new boiler installation or power flush, where microbore systems show progressive flow loss, where boiler or heat pump plate heat exchangers are repeatedly fouling, or where further routine intervention risks destabilising the system.
AHSR provides an evidence-led route to determine whether recovery is technically viable before replacement is advised.
Assessment process
Evidence first. Intervention only where it is technically supported.
The AHSR assessment stage exists to establish evidence, define technical boundaries, and determine whether remediation is appropriate. No remediation work is agreed or undertaken without it.
On-site technical assessment (£290 + VAT)
We carry out a full technical evaluation at the property, checking flow characteristics at representative radiators, temperature differentials across circuits and emitters, water condition indicators, and overall circulation behaviour. The assessment fee is deducted from the remediation cost if work proceeds.
Formal findings and professional verdict
Following assessment, we define one of three outcomes: AHSR remediation is viable and appropriate, targeted or partial intervention is available with documented limitations, or recovery is not technically supported and replacement or alternative escalation is recommended. All findings are formally recorded.
Remediation and verification, or documented findings
Where remediation is appropriate and agreed, work proceeds within the defined scope. The £290 assessment fee is deducted from the final cost. All work is returned with a complete professional documentation set suitable for manufacturer technical review, warranty clarification, and engineer escalation records.
Scope of professional support
System types and application areas
Microbore circuit recovery
Microbore systems are particularly vulnerable to internal restriction, bonded deposits, and progressive circulation loss. The low-flow, high-head methodology is specifically suited to systems where standard flow velocity is ineffective or carries increased risk of disturbance.
Gas and oil boiler heat exchangers (water-side only)
Where internal contamination has affected thermal transfer or circulation, AHSR may include controlled water-side cleaning as part of a wider system recovery strategy. Relevant where heat exchangers are suspected to be partially restricted, boiler faults persist despite component replacement, or contamination has migrated beyond emitters into the heat source. No disassembly or interference with combustion components or manufacturer-sealed internals is undertaken.
Heat pump systems (water-side only)
AHSR may be applied to water-side components of heat pump systems where restricted circulation or contamination is affecting performance, including plate heat exchangers, distribution circuits, and emitters. Relevant where flow faults or lockouts occur, heat transfer performance is reduced, or system imbalance persists. Refrigerant circuits and sealed components are not accessed.
Electric boiler systems (water-side only)
Where electric boilers are connected to existing wet distribution systems affected by contamination or restriction, AHSR may be applicable to the water-side circuit. All intervention is limited strictly to the sealed water circuit.
Professional boundaries
Note 1
Does not guarantee recovery
Not every system can be recovered. Where assessment indicates recovery is not technically appropriate, this is confirmed before any remediation proceeds. No remediation work is undertaken or charged where viability has not been established at assessment.
Note 2
Does not override manufacturer guidance
All work is undertaken within applicable standards, material compatibility limits, and manufacturer requirements. AHSR does not modify, disassemble, or interfere with combustion components, refrigerant circuits, electrical internals, or manufacturer-sealed elements.
Note 3
Specialist media is not supplied independently
The specialist mechanical media used within AHSR is part of a controlled, proprietary remediation methodology. It is not transferable, not suitable for general application outside its intended framework, and not available independently. Improper or partial application may increase system risk.

Assessment & Pricing
What does AHSR cost?
Pricing is determined after professional assessment. A clear cost is agreed before any remediation work proceeds.
Initial Assessment
£290 + VAT
Payable prior to attendance. Deducted from the remediation cost if work proceeds.
- On-site technical assessment
- Flow characteristics and circulation behaviour evaluation
- Identification of restriction type, severity, and distribution
- Determination of whether AHSR remediation, targeted intervention, or replacement is the correct route
- Full professional findings formally recorded
Remediation Work
£950 – £3,500 + VAT
Where remediation is appropriate following assessment. Final cost agreed before work begins.
Pricing depends on:
- System size and overall complexity
- Degree and nature of restriction or contamination
- Presence of microbore pipework
- Access and circuit configuration
- Time required for controlled, verification-led recovery
- Whether targeted work is required on critical components such as boiler heat exchangers or heat pump plate heat exchangers
Systems with extensive microbore, complex zoning, multiple circuits, or typically 25+ radiators may fall outside this range and are assessed individually. Systems involving plate heat exchangers or heat pumps are priced separately See more.
Assessment outcomes
Outcome 1
AHSR remediation is viable
A defined remediation scope and cost are agreed before work proceeds. The £290 assessment fee is deducted.
Outcome 2
Partial or targeted intervention is viable
Limitations and available options are clearly documented. Scope is agreed before any work begins.
Outcome 3
Recovery is not technically appropriate
Confirmed at assessment stage with professional findings recorded. Identified before any remediation cost is incurred.
Systems involving plate heat exchangers, particularly heat pumps, may require specialist assessment and dedicated recovery pricing. See our Heat Pump Plate Heat Exchanger Recovery page.
